As we head into the holiday season, this is the time that we usually reflect upon the things we are grateful for. Most of us know that gratitude is the key to growing our inner wealth. But did you know that the inner wealth gives us the power to grow our outer wealth?
I love this quote from Oprah Winfrey:
“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
It is so true. It applies to every area of our lives but I want to focus in particular on how gratitude affects our financial lives. Practicing gratitude at whatever financial stage we are in gives us the patience and motivation to continue moving forward on our journey to financial success.
Here are a five ways to practice financial gratitude:
1. Celebrate the present. Staying in gratitude helps us to celebrate the present. Celebrating the present helps to stay positive.
2. Be thankful. Be thankful for where ever you are in financial journey. Being thankful gives you the patience to continue with your plan which will lead to further financial success.
3. Save. By practicing and staying in the present, you are less likely to spend on impulse or buy things you don’t need. The less you spend the more you have to save towards your financial goals. Set a weekly or monthly savings goal and commit to it.
4. Give. Open a giving account. Set aside a certain amount of your income each month to be given to causes you are passionate about. You can accumulate the money and periodically make a donation. You will be surprised how fast the funds will grow if you take a systematic approach to saving.
5. Celebrate your financial milestones. It is important to celebrate the large successes but it is equally important to celebrate small milestones. By celebrating each milestone, it gives you the encouragement to continue with your plan.
Did you know that it is possible to be financially secure and sad at the same time? In contrast, it’s also possible to live month to month and be grateful that you have a job and your bills are being paid. Practicing gratitude daily shifts your focus from lack to a prosperity mindset.
Focusing on being grateful for what you have regardless of your current situation sets you up for future success.
